Hi, Friends!

I hope you all have been enjoying your summer.  Mine has been incredible.  If you keep up with me on Instagram, you know I’ve been “work-traveling” for most of it and now that I’ve got some down time, I am excited to share one of my favorite career moments thus far– my interview with the entire CAST of “GIRLS TRIP.”

By now, you should have seen the movie.  As of this week, it has made over $100 Million in the box office.  With powerhouse actresses like Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith leading the way, and with newcomer Tiffany Haddish completely taking over with her hilarious antics, I knew that this film was a winner.

After a lot of praying and hoping and wishing, my ESSENCE.com family tapped me to do the interview with three of my favorite actresses of all time.  The women were running a tad bit behind but I was GLAD to wait because… LEGENDS.

Jada Pinkett-Smith walked in first.  I was trying not to fan out.  I was trying to remember to be professional and I felt that Jada was trying to regain some energy after performing a second-line in the streets of NOLA for most of the morning.  Therefore, I said “Hi, Jada! Nice to meet you,” shook her hand, and sat down on the stools the crew set up for our interview.

Next, THEEE Queen Latifah, in all her multi-talented glory, walked in and immediately changed the energy in the room from “let’s get this over with,” to “let’s enjoy this moment.”    I greeted her in the same way I did Jada, and then, Queen Latifah walked over to the stage where a local jazz trio was set up to play to give the space a realistic restaurant feel.  In this moment, I’m really trying to hold it together because Dana has been a source of inspiration for me since I was a baby. (The first rap song I knew by heart was “U.N.I.T.Y.” No lie. I was like…3.)  She asks the guys if she can play the drums, and of course, she killed it and made everyone dance with whatever energy they had left.

Regina and Tiffany came in next, but we didn’t really have to time to do much greeting because we had already lost time.  Minutes later, we rushed to begin the interview, I prayed in my head, and we began. I spent 15 minutes getting advice, laughing, learning, and soaking in the presence of women I never imagined meeting all at once.  It was an incredibly unforgettable experience I will NEVER forget.

Here are the clips that made the cut:
